Alla famiglia Couperin si deve il successo della musica per clavicembalo. La figura di Louis rimase a lungo in ombra e alcune sue composizioni tornarono alla luce dopo la sua morte; tuttavia grazie all’attuale ricerca musicologica si tende a rivalutarne l’immagine. Discorso diverso per François le Grand, esponente di riferimento della dinastia, il cui stile compositivo ruota intorno alla sua stessa considerazione: “Confesserò in buona fede che preferisco ciò che mi commuove a ciò che mi sorprende”.

To the Couperin dynasty we owe the success of the music for harpsichord. The figure of Louis languished in obscurity over many years and only recently, through the musicological research, it has been possibile to recognize his genius. The story differs with François the Great, leading member of the dynasty, whose compositional style revolves around his own sentence: “I confess that I far prefer what moves me to what surprises me”.
